K Class Weekend

Posted on 14 March 2014

In a previous life, Gypsy sailed and raced with the Auckland K class fleet, initially as K4 and later on as K89 and plain 89.

While this is no longer the case (She has reverted to her original sail number of c46) she has been and, will continue to be, involved in K class activities.

The first K get together in recent times was in fact held at Kawau Island with a BBQ at the home of John Pryor in 2008

On March 7 2014, the most recent K class get together kicked off with a raft up and dinner in the Auckland Viaduct, folled by a sail to Kawau Island on the Saturday, BBQ ashore on Saturday evening and a sail back to Auckland on the Sunday. Gypsy was part of these events along with 5 crew.

The attached pics show some of the sailing along with a couple of shots of Gypsy’s mother ship Rotomahana, ferrying crew ashore.

A very full on and enjoyable weekend.

Mahurangi Regatta

Posted on 8 February 2014

Gypsy took part in this wonderful regatta at the end of January. It was a great race, but much to our surprise, we lost part of our rigging shortly after crossing the finish line. We were very lucky that it did not happen during the race.
These photos say it all!

Unfortunately, this site has been off the air for the last two months, during which time, there has been a lot happening with Gypsy.
Most recently, we sailed up to Russell and took part in the Tall Ships race, finishing 10th
